The exhibit will remain at the Department until August ; a special collection of Scholastic Regional Award winners from New York City will be displayed through October Department of Education Department headquarters, along with 57 other Scholastic Gold Medal winners in 2- and 3-D art.

Maker Prom is invite-only. For many students, this will be the first public exhibition of their work as they walk in the footsteps of notable Awards alumni including Andy Warhol, Truman Capote and Sylvia Plath. Teen artists and writers continue to push the boundaries of their creativity, as they have for many generations, and we hope that they find confidence in themselves and their work through the Awards and the community that surrounds them. Additional scholarships are made available to Portfolio Silver Medalists and through sponsored awards and stipends to summer arts programs. At the start of the ceremony, Whoopi delivered the opening remarks, encouraging students to continue down their creative paths by believing in themselves. Creative teens in grades submit work in 28 categories of art and writing, including film and animation, video game design, sculpture, photography, fashion design, poetry, journalism, humor, dramatic script and science fiction. Present were honorees, their teachers and families, art educators and leaders, and Department staff. While visiting the Big Apple, students participated in events throughout Manhattan and shared their adventures on social media using GoldKey. Another spectacular highlight from this week: Throughout Thursday night, the iconic Empire State Building shined its tower lights in gold to honor the teen winners of the Awards.
